About Us
Whether you employ one or a thousand employees, you will be affected by the ever changing employment laws of the land. If you are in the “employing a thousand” band, then you will be more used to dealing with issues as they arise. If you are a smaller employer, then the occasional problem can be disruptive and expensive to sort out.
This is why we set up Llŷn Consulting, to help smaller businesses with those occasional employment problems that they find difficult to deal with.
We create bespoke services to suit the needs of the client. The vast majority of issues can be resolved amicably using the legislation and guidance that is available from a number of sources. The best employers of course, make sure that the policies and practices are in place before these issues arise.
Whatever you need to help with the employment of staff, we are here to help.
Michelle and Dai have a unique insight into dealing with business employment issues, having worked for both trade unions supporting employees and in business representing employers.
Michelle Davies
Michelle was introduced to employment issues through working for a finance sector trade union, representing members and negotiating contract improvements on their behalf.
Subsequently she moved to become an HR Director for a contract cleaning company in the City of London where she was responsible for a large workforce from many diverse backgrounds.
The nature of the business required Michelle to have a significant working knowledge of all aspects of HR including TUPE, redundancies, reorganisation and recruitment.
Dai Davies
Dai started working in the finance sector before moving into trade unions, ultimately becoming Director of Internal Communications for the largest UK trade union.
Along the way he has represented members and been on the negotiating panels of major business deals involving large UK PLC’s.
Reorganisation, merger, the selling of businesses including TUPE or contract renegotiations, Dai has had experience of the implications for employment relations in both large and small organisations.

HR Consultancy
The best start to any resolution to a situation is to have been prepared. We encourage all our clients to have robust, legal, complete and up to date documentation and processes to enable a fair and transparent resolution to any employment problem.
Employees are legally entitled to a contract of employment after six weeks of continuous service with an employer. By not having a contract, an employee still accumulates employment rights as there are legal definitions and accrued rights in place to safeguard employees, but an employer will be in a difficult position in a dispute if the relevant paperwork is not in place and up to date.
Business change all the time, downsize, upscaling, merging, reorganising, buying and selling. They need to do this to survive in their marketplace. Employees have to be able to adapt and change too, but they do have rights that are protected and any proposed changes should be transparent, consulted on and properly implemented.
Consultation is key to a successful change and we can help with drafting communications, letters, timetables and advice.
Inevitably there are times when the ideals of the company and the priorities of the staff do not coincide. Unfortunately, staff become sick or are injured, their personal circumstances may change or their actions may not be of the standard that is expected. All these issues occur in every business and providing there are policies and processes already in place to deal with any eventuality, the problem can be resolved with recourse to solicitors, tribunals or courts.
At Llyn Consulting, we do not have a magic wand, but we do have a helping hand and we are here to help.
Documentation
We can audit your existing employment documentation to make sure it is up to date, compliant and complete.
We can write bespoke contracts of employment, Employee handbooks, policies and processes to ensure you have the best safety net possible.
We can draw up individual policies for your business on a range of subjects from Social Media to Disciplinary Procedure to Maternity/Paternity/Parental leave.
Once we are on board we can ensure that your documentation stays up to date by advising of any legislative or best practice changes, leaving you to get on with managing your business.
Employment Law
For all our clients we continually monitor the legal cases and tribunal awards to ensure that they are up to date with the latest legislation changes and precedents set by the courts.
We update or add to the documentation when required in the light of legal amendments or changes to best practice.
We ensure that the guidance from statutory bodies such as the CBI, Federation of Small Businesses, TUC and ACAS is available to all clients and that such guidance is adopted into all our dealings with employers/employees.
Whatever situation you find yourself in we can find a solution that suits your business, however the best policy is always to have the documentation in place, follow the processes and procedures properly and create a paper trail of everything you can. Following this guidance you will know that you have done what you can properly, legitimately and fairly for all parties. It is also a great defence on the rare occasions when a dispute escalates further.
Human Resources Advice
We can advise on disciplinary, absence management and performance issues.
We can help and provide advice on reorganisation plans, merger, purchase or sale decisions from an employment perspective.
We can provide template or bespoke letters, staff circulars, scripts for interviews and written timetables for significant projects.
In some cases we can, for existing clients, undertake disciplinary, redundancy or sickness absence interviews with employees on the business’ behalf.
Our Clients
We have developed a close working relationship with a wide range of clients that include:
Pricing
Our client base is typically small and medium sized businesses in and around the North Wales coast.
The need for continuous HR support therefore is minimal, and as such we provide a range of options to suit the requirements of each business.
For those organisations that need support regularly, with a number of managers/supervisors seeking guidance directly, we can arrange a monthly retainer fee which will allow the organisation the flexibility to allow these references without worrying about clocking up expensive hours without control.
The other option is a typical pay-as-you-go offer where a charge is made based on the number of hours worked.
Our base charge is £50 per hour although we are happy to discuss alternative rates depending on circumstances.
Pay As You Go
- We offer a service for those businesses who only require assistance from time to time, to be able to pay just for what they use. We charge £50 per hour for this service, which means you can call or email your issue over and we will deal with it. If the matter doesn’t take the full hour then we will log it and add it to the next contact so you only pay for what you use.
Basics Pack
- For those businesses with up to 25 employees, that have no staff documentation, some but not sufficient, or where the documents are hugely out of date, we offer a service which will get them into a position where they have a range of valid up to date contracts of employment, employee handbooks and policy documents, all introduced to the existing staff with covering letters and acknowledgements. We will assist throughout the process with questions and dispute handling and giving advice to the employer about what they are able to include and what to avoid, whilst at all times complying with not just the legislation but also the best custom and practice around.
Retainer
- For those businesses that need on the spot help to a range of managers/supervisors, or who have a significant number of employees and would like a service that is there ready and waiting, then we can negotiate a monthly retainer fee based on the likely utilisation of the services. This can be monitored and adjusted appropriately over time. Customers in this bracket get preferential treatment and access.
